About Us

SVC is an independent non-profit organization working throughout the Twin Cities metro area. Each year, we provide more than 2,000 youth and adults with 24 hour crisis phone service, [c], individual counseling and support groups [f], advocacy [e] and legal clinics [g] at no cost. We work with community systems, such as hospitals, law enforcement agencies, courts, schools, and other social services organizations to assist sexual assault victims and prevent sexual violence. In addition, we educate over 20,000 people through community education and professional training efforts. The Sexual Violence Center (SVC) was established in 1985 by a group of advocates and community leaders, with the twin goals of supporting individuals affected by sexual violence and fostering attitude changes that will ultimately eradicate sexual violence. SVC began offering program services in Hennepin County, expanding to Carver County in 1987 and to Scott County in 1991. The agency now serves the greater Twin Cities metropolitan area. SVC never charges for its services. SVC remains committed to raising awareness about sexual violence in an effort to prevent sexual assault and to ensuring that victims of sexual abuse know where to turn for help [h].

Our mission is to eradicate sexual violence and abuse by:

-Challenging the systems and individuals that promote privilege, oppression and domination

-Educating those that will join us as advocates and catalysts for change, and

-Supporting those who have been victimized, empowering them to not only survive but thrive, finding power and movement in our collective voices.
