Legal Clinics

If you or a loved one has experienced sexual violence, you may have questions about the legal system, our legal rights, and available legal resources.  Often, people think that the only option after a sexual assault is criminal prosecution, but it is not the only, nor is it the best, solution for everyone.  Because there are many legal remedies and resources, the Sexual Violence Center has partnered with the Volunteer Lawyers Network to offer a free bi-weekly legal advice clinic.

Volunteer attorneys can provide information about:

  • Orders for Protection/Harassment
  • Restraining Orders
  • Privacy issues
  • Housing
  • Employment
  • Education
  • Rights
  • Sexual Harassment
  • Immigration Issues
  • Statutes of Limitations
  • Divorce/Custody/Child Support

If you have a legal question related to a sexual assault, please call SVC at 612-871-5111 or come to our Minneapolis office at 3757 Fremont Avenue North on one of the following days:

First Wednesday of each month 6:00-7:30 pm.

Third Wednesday of each month 6:00 - 7:30 pm.

These are walk-in clinics, and clients are seen on a first come/first served basis. You can also call in, and an attorney may be available to speak with you.  If not, they will attempt to call you back during legal clinic hours.

***Unlike other SVC services, our volunteer attorneys do have income-eligibility requirements.  You may be asked to provide income information before you receive advice.
