Legal Clinics
If you or a loved one has experienced sexual violence, you may have questions about the legal system, victim rights, and available legal resources. SVC advocates assist victim/survivors by informing them of their victim rights, and assisting them as they navigate the legal system. Often, people think that the only option after a sexual assault is criminal prosecution, but it is not the only, nor is it the best, solution for everyone. Because there are many legal remedies and resources, SVC partners with the Volunteer Lawyers Network to offer free legal clinics.
Volunteer attorneys can provide information about:
- Orders for Protection/Harassment
- Restraining Orders
- Privacy issues
- Housing
- Employment
- Education
- Rights
- Sexual Harassment
- Immigration Issues
- Statutes of Limitations
- Divorce/Custody/Child Support
SVC's Legal Clinic is held the second Thursday of every month from 6-8pm. The legal clinic is staffed by a volunteer attorney from the Minnesota Women Lawyers and administered by Volunteer Lawyers Network. If you have a legal question related to a sexual assault, please call SVC at 612-871-5111 to schedule a 30 minute one-to-one appointment today!
***Unlike other SVC services, our volunteer attorneys do have income-eligibility requirements. You may be asked to provide income information before you receive advice.***
