On April 1st, SVC was the featured Non-Profit of the Night at the Timberwolves vs. Miami Heat game at Target Center. SVC had its public service announcement played during the game and a table set up on the concourse. The video invited fans to STAND UP against sexual violence by donating $10 to the Sexual Violence Center via a text message. If you were not able to make it to the game, you can still watch the video below and text-to-donate!
In 2010, SVC made three short videos, "Sexual Violence Prevention Tips," for Sexual Assault Awareness Month. These video shorts take traditional messages about prevention and flip them on their heads. In the past, prevention messages have focused primarily on what potential victims can do to keep themselves safe from sexual violence (ex. Don't walk alone at night, take a self defense course, be assertive, and so on). These videos show what potential perpetrators can do to prevent themselves from being sexually violent.
You can watch more videos on our YouTube channel here.
As part of our contribution to SAAM in 2009, SVC launched a six month prevention based media campaign to reach an even wider audience in the Twin Cities area.
In creating the ad we didn't want to talk about rape or sexual violence, instead we wanted to promote a message about healthy sexual behavior and stress the importance of mutual consent. The ad encourages people to talk about consent and get permission when engaging in sexual behavior with others.
The ad pushes the message that hearing someone say "Yes" can be a real turn on, and is a healthy part of sexual behavior. We are hopeful that more positive reinforcement will encourage people to think and talk about what consitutes helthy sexual relations.
Thanks to Brite Media Indoor Advertising, the ad (below) ran in bathrooms around the Twin Cities April through October of 2009.
Consent is what's sexy. Talk with your partner before you act. The only way we can prevent sexual violence is by promoting healthy sex. To learn more go to sexualviolencecenter.org.
