24hr Medical Advocacy

If you have been sexually assaulted and want to go to the hospital to be examined by a sexual assault nurse, please click here for instructions on what to do before going to the hospital. If you are going to a hospital in Hennepin, Carver or Scott Counties, SVC will be called at the same time, the sexual assault nurse is called to go to the hospital, so we can send an advocate (if one is available) to provide you with support, resources and information. Our role is to advocate for whatever you as the victim/survivor of the sexual assault wants to happen.

You can have a sexual assault examine done by the sexual assault nurse so that evidence is collected and decide later whether or not you want to report the assault to the police. Evidence can be collected up to 120 hours after an assault.

To receive support from an SVC advocate, call the 24-hour crisis line at 612-871-5111.

All SVC medical advocates have completed a 49-plus hour training per the state of Minnesota requirements, and continue their training through quarterly workshops.
