"The month of April has been designated Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) in the United States. The goal of SAAM is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and to educate communities and individuals on how to prevent sexual violence. Each day, people witness a continuum of behaviors that range from being respectful and safe, to sexually abusive and violent."-nsvrc.org
Each year during April, SVC creates a campaign to promote sexual violence prevention and awareness in the Twin Cities area. To view Sexual Assault Awareness Month campaigns that SVC has done in the past and other campaigns, click on a the links below.
On April 1st, SVC was the featured Non-Profit of the Night at the Timberwolves vs. Miami Heat game at Target Center. SVC had its public service announcement played during the game and a table set up on the concourse. The video invited fans to STAND up against sexual violence by donating $10 to the Sexual Violence Center via a text message. If you were not able to make it to the game, you can still watch the video below and text-to-donate!
*Call SVC (612-871-5111) or your local rape crisis center, or a friend or family member to find someone you trust who can support you.
*Go to a hospital or clinic even if you decide not to report. You may feel OK, but it’s still a good idea to talk with a medical care provider about tests for pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections/diseases, and support services.
