Become an Advocate
The role of an advocate is to provide information, offer options and support clients in their decisions. The advocate is a facilitator, sharing knowledge, giving choices and acting as a guide. SVC offers training opportunities throughout the year for volunteers and interns.
Our next advocacy training starts September 2017!
Our trainings are structured in compliance with MN statutory guidelines, with a 40-training-hour minimum of instruction (over the course of several weeks) to build sexual assault advocacy competency. This training prepares advocates to provide direct services to victims/survivors of sexual violence, including answering SVC’s crisis line and supporting victims/survivors in the hospital. Supplemental trainings are offered for those volunteers interested in providing one-to-one peer counseling , facilitating support groups, teaching about sexual violence in schools and legal advocacies.
