Calling All Artists
Co-Facilitators for “Journey Through the Arts” Support Group

I. Introduction
The Sexual Violence Center, in partnership with the Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association (NEMAA), invites experienced and passionate artists to submit proposals for co-facilitating a 10-week art therapy support groupas part of our “Journey Through the Arts” program. This support group is designed to provide a safe and healing space for sexual assault survivors to explore their emotions, foster resilience, and promote recovery through various art forms. We are seeking artists with expertise in Expressive Painting, Drumming, Dance,Poetry/Spoken Word, Self-Portrait Film, Clay Sculpture, Pottery, Glass, and Writing to join us in this vital mission.

II. Background
The Sexual Violence Center has been serving survivors of sexual assault for nearly 40 years. The “Journey Through the Arts” program is an essential component of our support services. It harnesses the therapeutic power of art to help survivors cope, heal, and reclaim their voices, with the valuable support of NEMAA.

III. Scope of Work
The selected artists will co-facilitate 1 session as part of a 10-week art therapy support group.
We are not seeking artists to do “therapy”. The artist will lead the art portion of the session. Each session will focus on a specific art form, allowing participants to explore their emotions, express themselves, and connect with other survivors.
SVC will provide the venue space for the group session.

Artists will be responsible for:
1. Leading one 60-minute art session during the 10-week session focusing on a specific art form.
2. Creating a safe and inclusive environment for survivors to share their stories and express themselves,including a confidential environment.
3. Providing guidance and support for participants to engage with the art form effectively.
4. Adapting the sessions to meet the unique needs of the group.
5. Collaborating with other co-facilitators and the Sexual Violence Center staff to ensure the success of the program.
6. Attending 2 team meetings, one prior to the group start and one at the end (up to 3 hours total).
*****This project is made possible through a Minnesota State Arts Board grant. Artists will be compensated with a $650 for their time and effort****

IV. Qualifications
We are seeking artists with the following qualifications:
1. Demonstrated expertise and experience in one of the following art forms: Expressive Painting, Dance,Poetry/Spoken Word, Self-Portrait Film, Drumming, Clay Sculpture, Pottery, Glass, or Writing.
2. A commitment to trauma-informed practices and understanding of the unique needs of sexual assault survivors.
3. Previous experience working with survivors of sexual violence or in a therapeutic setting is highly desirable.
4. Strong communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
5. Reliable and punctual with the ability to commit to a 10-week program.
6. A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of their work.

V. Proposal Submission
Interested artists are requested to submit proposals by 12/29/2023.
Proposals should include at minimum the following information:
1. A cover letter introducing yourself and expressing your interest in co-facilitating the “Journey Through the Arts” support group.
2. A resume or curriculum vitae detailing your relevant experience.
3. A description of your approach to facilitating art education.
4. A portfolio or sample work showcasing your expertise in your chosen art form. Websites, social media orimage galleries are acceptable formats.
5. Three professional references who can speak to your qualifications.
